Cradle of Forestry. So cool.

May 23, 2010

Yesterday we took the kids to the Cradle of Forestry in the Pisgah National Forest.  I had been before but my husband and the kids hadn’t.  It was super cool.  You learn all about things in the forest, the first forestry school and rangers, and how life was lived 80 years ago along the Blue Ridge Parkway.  They had people hand-dipping candles, spinning wool on spinning wheels, making corn husk dolls, and weaving on giant looms.  A crafter’s paradise!

The Forestry school was built by George Vanderbilt, the man who built the Biltmore house, here in Asheville.

Here’s their official website: http://www.cradleofforestry.com/

If you are close, you should go.  It’s well worth it!
